Learn to play guitar/bass from scratch, or despite years of lessons

Going through my mother's piano stool for some sheet music the other day, I noticed a book the title of which actually made me laugh out loud - "How to play piano, despite years of lessons". And how true it is! I fully subscribe to the 21st century philosophy which says that people should learn music in the way that best suits them, not in some old fashioned and highly coded manner designed to make music seem more complicated than it is and make musicians seem like the keepers of secrets for an elite cult.

Young Adults and Big Old Grown Ups:

Whether you're a complete beginner or an old hand, I will work closely with you to help you achieve your goals, learning your way, your speed, your music. Every student receives a tailored learning plan, in which they set their own aims and goals, whether that be to learn to improvise, become confident enough to perform to friends or round the proverbial campfire, or just to have fun and enjoy music. Maybe you want to ditch the notation and learn by ear? Or do you want the theory behind the music, but made easy? Or maybe you want the full on scales and Jazz chords. Whatever suits you best.

Plus, with a fully equipped recording studio right there, you can leave lessons with CDs of the material studied in lessons to help you practice. Also, you can review your progress from time to time by recording your playing in lessons - look back over your recordings in a year's time and see how much you've progressed!

Songwriters:

I feel privileged each time a student brings their original compositions to a lesson, as I understand that a level of trust and openness is required to bring in songs for workshopping. As an experienced songwriter, I know that each person carries their own personal creative process, and it is always my aim to get right inside that - to understand and facilitate whatever your individual process is and however it works for you. Why have your brought this song to be worked on? How would you like it to sound?

What are your trying to convey? What new elements can be brought in to develop this? How does this make you feel - how do you want the listener to feel?

Kids stuff:

You wanna play music, right? That's the fun bit. In my lessons you'll learn the songs you want to learn, made easy for you. Got a favorite song? Bring me the title and we'll see about learning it. I'll write it down, and you'll leave the lesson with a recording of your favorite song to practice with, at 3 different speeds. Got a second favorite song? Maybe we can learn that one next week. Not got a favorite song right now? Don't worry - I can suggest some great tunes. Before you know it you'll know the fretboard inside out, and be able to play all your favorite music too.
